Well, this one is another one I've never heard of, though I have to say the chapter titles on the DVD are promising. "Thunderbird" and "Sweat Lodge" make it sound as though it's going to have some Indian or First Nations connections, and that's awfully cool!

On with the show...

After-watching note: Oh, that was *such* an awesome episode!! I loved that!! Loved the Shimshin. Loved seeing the Inuit Hunter from the Pilot again. Loved Fraser. Loved Fraser and Ray together.

This episode was just purely delightful to me!

I'm not even sure which episode this *is* coming up next. What does the DVD say? "The Promise". Huh, never heard of it...

Okeys.

After-watching note: Well, maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for this today or something, because that just didn't hit my wonderful buttons today. The plot's not as lacy as some, but the dialogue seemed forced and it was too much of the kids and not enough of Fraser and Ray.

It wasn't *bad*, it just wasn't *much*.

I don't know the first bit of *anything* about this episode. As far as I know no one's ever mentioned it to me for good or ill.

Hmmm...

Well, I guess I'll have to see what I think about it as I watch.

After-watching notes: Well, I hate prison episodes, and Ray getting arrested. I hate Ray acting like an idiot in front of the Judge. I *loathe* the State's Attorney and Thatcher.

On the other hand Fraser was gorgeous, the dialogue was great, Fraser being unable to steal Milk Duds was awesome, and, as always, I adore Welsh.

On the whole it was fun, but still kind of stressful.

Well, I've heard this is a good episode, so I'm excited to watch this one!

After-watching note: Well, there were many things I loved about the episode--pretty much every moment of Fraser and Ray in the vault once the water started coming in was just lovely. And I enjoyed Dief running past the cops and firemen to get the Stuffed Mountie Doll to come help.

However, Francesca just made me want to strangle her with her ugly pink jacket and I can't figure out why Ray, of all the people in the universe, would be imperilling his *job* with an insurance fraud scam, and a really obviously *bad* one. Huh?? There are plenty of not-stupid ways they could have gotten Ray declared legally dead, you know.

But on the whole I enjoyed it and I loved so very very much of the Fraser/Ray interaction (when Ray wasn't being a pill) and I loved Fraser defending the Brown Uniform to Thatcher (though I didn't like her much).

Okay, so here I am in season 2 of due South. This is entirely unknown territory to me. Can I hope that I'm now in an entirely post-Victoria world, made clean and fresh and new by the events of Letting Go?

I'm going to hope that, though this sure does seem like the trip to Canada to rebuild Fraser's cabin that Ray promised in Letting Go.

On with the show!

After-watching notes: Well, that was pretty campy, and I wanted to smack Fraser a few times, which isn't normal for me. But in general it was quite delightful. I loved it when they started working smoothly together. I loved Ray being so quietly competent. I loved the singing. :D

Okay, I think I still have to deal with Victoria and the fallout therefrom in this episode.

::wibble::

I realize that it's not at all realistic for traumatic things to happen to the heroes of a show and for everything to be back to normal the next week. I get that.

But sometimes I wish the show's writers didn't.

For one thing, I don't mind them leaving the trauma aftermath to the fanfic writers, who generally do a better good job with it. For another...well, damn it, I've just spent two weeks on the trauma. Unless they can give me some damn fine comfort, it's just going to be more of that trauma, right?.

After-watching note: That was some good damn comfort and I'm feeling better about everything about this show now!

Just a heads up for folks I have OMG *such* a crush on Laurie Holden, so there are quite a number of pictures of Jill here (and it was a seriously ear-splitting squee when I saw her). She's just so pretty and has that wonderful voice and her tummy's on display here which is just....mmmmm...and her eyes and her hair. And I *love* Jill too. So anyway, be warned.

So on the whole a wonderfully slashy, sweet, comforting episode!

Okay ::whimper:: deep breath. Mounties In Pain, aka. Victoria's Secret, continues and goes into the second, and really altogether worse part.

Some of you may know that even aside from the whole Mounties In Pain aspect, the main theme of this episode (Our Heroes suspected of a crime and treated like bad guys when they're innocent) is one that I especially *hate*. It gives me the creeps and stresses me out and just in general I *hate* it.

So this episode is *exceptionally* difficult and painful for me to watch. It is entirely possible that I'm going to be less thorough than I ought to be in my notes because I'm going to have my fingers in my ears going LALALALALA for a big chunk of it.

::whimper::

Stalling didn't help last week, so I'm just going to jump right into it.

I watched this episode with [livejournal.com profile] sassyinkpen yesterday (actually we watched both parts of VS), because I couldn't face this episode alone.

I'm watching it again today to take the notes and screencaps. Or I will be as soon as I stop stalling.

::deep breath::

Don't expect a lot of in-depth commentary. Lots of meeps and wibbles though. Probably even some chin quivers.

::deep breath::

I really do need to grit my teeth and push the play button, don't I?

Okay....

After-watching note: Increased exposure doesn't make that any easier to watch, but it does make it clear how impressively well done it was, because there's some *gorgeous* foreshadowing there, just wonderful.

I'd like to keep the discussion this week to this week's episode, we can discuss the whole thing next week. I'm trying to keep my angst and anguish in manageable bites.

Crazy numbers of screencaps. Both Fraser and Ray are just *spectacular* looking in this and taking screencaps keeps me from thinking about what's going on. If you have trouble getting them, please let me know and I'll give you the direct URL to the gallery.

Without being spoiled for any details, I've heard that this episode is a serious contender for "worst episode in the series". Well, yay.

Maybe it's not so bad. (Though I have to say that the shot of the idiotic looking woman in blue in the button on the DVD isn't promising.)

Well, maybe I'll see charms that other folks are missing...

After-watching note: Okay, I sure *hope* there aren't any episodes worse than that. Because that was ghastly. Hell, there wasn't even a lot of good pretty to take away from the horror, because Fraser looked pale for most of it and Ray spent about half the episode just onscreen in little minutes ranting in the car. Nothing very pretty or screencappable. So there are about half as many screencaps as I'd normally get.

Hopefully next week will be better...

Meep and wibble, I'm now on the same disc with Victoria's Secret. ::whimper::

The time for freaking out about that is not yet (it is, in fact, precisely three weeks from now), so I'll focus on what I'm watching today. I have seen The Deal before, though mostly what I remember is hurt!Fraser and forceful!Ray, neither of which is a bad thing.

This should be fun, on with the show....:D

After watching note: OMG that was wonderful!! I just *adore* Ray *so* much!! ::twirls:: Such an intense episode, but so wonderful for all that. Many many many screencaps of Ray here, because he was hotter than the Mountie for a lot of this episode (and that's the first time I've ever said that).

Wonderful!!

I have kind of mixed emotions about this episode. I *adored* Fraser and Ray in it with deep love for both of them. But I found Mark Smithbauer almost intolerable. Until the end.

I wish shows wouldn't do that--set up a character as an intolerable ass and then, in about two minutes of screentime, turn them around so we're supposed to be all sympathetic with them. Very frustrating! The Sentinel does it all the time, and it's always frustrating.

On the other hand, I'm very amused that instead of a Babe Of The Week, this episode had a Hunk Of The Week. :D

On the whole, I did really enjoy it, especially Fraser and Ray who rocked my socks.

There are two things I ought to be upfront about before I start watching this episode. One is that I've never seen it before. This is one that my hubby and I skipped when we were watching through DS a little more than a year ago. So I'm going to be a little bit more focused on sorting out the plot than I often am

The other is that we skipped this episode because I've heard a little about it and heard that Fraser is in a position of having to shoot Diefenbaker in it and I just couldn't deal.

I still can't, but I'm being more disciplined and watching all of them. [livejournal.com profile] sassyinkpen reminds me that I *know* Dief doesn't die, because I've seen later episodes. And she assures me that I'll be okay watching it.

I trust Sassy, so here goes...

This is a very charming and thoroughly enjoyable episode. I don't like the tag much, but everything up to the last minute is really awesome, so I'm willing to forgive it one overly "magical realism" moment.

There are lots of car pics this time, and lots of Muddy!Ray pics.

The dialogue is definitely one of the stars of this episode. There's so much beautiful car banter going on here, both between Fraser and Ray and among the Canadian Mobsters following them. You really need to scamper over to [livejournal.com profile] spikedluv's post with quotes from The Man Who Knew Too Little so you can read the yummiest of the dialogue.

Generally speaking *quite* a delight!!

I really enjoyed this episode! I love Fraser leading the neighborhood watch, loved all of the secondary characters (as usual), loved Ray being so nervous about the elderly folks.

I especially like Mr. Colling--he's written and acted so well, just so *very* emotionally true in my opinion. He decides to fight back and then is so *empowered* by it. Too empowered really. I like that.

Fraser taking care of his neighborhood his just such a *wonderful* thing to see. It gets me every episode.

I've seen this episode before, but I didn't remember it as being perfectly wonderful! Maybe because I was watching it with the hubby and he didn't like Fraser undercover (as himself) in the asylum. (I also, as you'll see, didn't remember most of the details.)

I don't know what was wrong with me before, but I sure as hell loved this episode this time!! I *adore* the way Fraser dealt with the patients at the asylum. Loved Ray being all snarky with him. Loved almost all of the secondary characters (who weren't bad guys). Just *wonderful*!!

I appear to have watched more of season 1 due South than I remembered, because I've seen most of the episodes on this DVD (except The Wild Bunch). I make no claims about *remembering* them. But I've seen them.

After watching notes: There are all kinds of prefigurements here for Victoria's Secret, but if possible, I'd rather save the discussion of those for when we get to VS. I haven't seen VS in ages and the details are beyond fuzzy.

I'm a little bummed by this episode. They were pretty, I love the snarky side Fraser's showing, I actually liked the BOTW for herself. But OMG, I *hated* Ray being *such* an idiot about her. And the pre-figuring of VS was just stressing me out.

I think part of it was my mood--I really needed something super-slashy today (I'm a little stressed) and I didn't get it. So take my comments with a big grain of salt.

I remember this ep from when I was watching before. And I remember loving it. I hope my memory is good. ;)

I should warn up-front that I hate Christmas and, generally, I hate Christmas episodes of anything. On the other hand, I do trust due South not to go treacly on me.

After-watching notes: My trust was well placed, this wasn't treacly. This is quite a good episode. The music is even more spectacular than in most episodes. Fraser's damned hot in jeans throughout most of it. There are reindeer in the 2-7 and bank-robbing Santa Clauses.

It lends itself to extremely interesting speculation on the nature of the relationships Fraser and Ray had with their fathers, which is more than excellent.

And it's got possibly the slashiest moment in the series so far. (You'll have to read the comments to know what I think that is.)

We apparently have a kid again in this episode. Sigh. On the upside, it's almost impossible for infants to be as annoying as teenagers. ::fingers crossed::

I forsee either a spit-up joke, a "baby is a messy eater" joke, or a diaper changing joke. At least. Worst case scenario would be one of each. Hopefullly, I'll be proven wrong.

I should warn you that I have all the maternal instincts of a guppy, so there's going to be *no* cooing over the "cute iddle babeeee" going on in these notes. If you're going to want that, you'll have to supply it yourself.

Post-watching note: Despite the baby, I quite enjoyed this episode. Fraser and Ray were together through the whole thing, it had interesting people with interesting moral problems, Diefenbaker was great, and Fraser wore the brown uniform. Many things to love.

Okay, expect lots of focus on the pretty today because the plot's making me moderately crazy and 16 (aka Christina) is making me *very* crazy.

But there's lots of pretty and even some very nice bits with Ray and Fraser (who actually get to spend some time together onscreen this episode). And 16 does eventually manage to rustle up a brain cell or two.

I haven't even watched and taken notes on 10 episodes and it won't make a top 10 list, but it does have its moments.
