Hi, I just recently got interested in Due South after seeing slash illustrations and stories of it (lol). I would just like to know, are Vecchio and Fraser really together in the tv series? (or maybe it is just hinted to.) Whenever I search for Due South info, I do get links to communities for slash and a lot of the userpics of the members show some kind of intimacy between the two characters, so that is why I am wondering.

Please don't take these because they aren't mine.
The second one looks like it might have been drawn, but I'm not sure.

I have never seen the tv series, since I was maybe still a careless child when it aired, but I'm thinking of starting :)

The first icon is from the episode "North" and is not manipped. It's not a romantic moment. Vecchio has just tackled Fraser to prevent him from walking off a cliff. (Great episode, too!)

I loved S1 and S2. I was definitely hooked on Due South from day one--I watched it in its first run and taped every ep because, as a scarred veteran of the Star Trek and Forever Knight and other fandoms, I thought if I loved it, cancellation couldn't be far off (and I was right--it was canceled more than once). But I didn't see the show as slashable then. Vecchio's vibe with Fraser is definitely one of LOVE, but it's very brotherly. Saintly, even, at times. Watch them in order; you'll see.

I remember that when RayK came on the scene in the beginning of S3, I thought, "NOW we can slash this show." And they went on to incorporate plenty of homoerotic subtext in the show, for whatever reason. Sometimes it was more overt than subtext. (My icon is not manipped except for the addition of the text. It's a frame from S4 "Odds.") We do know, from an interview Paul Gross gave, that quite a lot of the homoerotic stuff was deliberately done. However, I'm sure he didn't intend to support only one interpretation of the material. He seemed to encourage people to draw their own interpretations. It's a great attitude for a producer and an author to have. Yay, Paul! As a fandom, we are BLESSED.

I would suggest watching the show in order. I did last year, the first time I'd seen the whole thing again since it originally aired, and RayK won me over so thoroughly that I think I wouldn't have been able to make myself watch all the Vecchio eps again if I'd seen S3 and S4 first. They are great, don't get me wrong, but the slash pairing of Fraser and RayK is so compelling that I now find the earlier eps unsatisfying. So watch them first, just in case! :)

Hey, I was wondering if you know if there's a link to that Paul Gross article; I've been trying to find it for a while now, with no luck.

I'm sorry, I can't find the link at the moment; however, I think I do have an archive copy of the article. Email me.
